How Much Acai Per Bowl? Packets vs. Bowl Base vs. Scoopable Bucket (Cost Math)
Most acai bowls use about 200g of frozen acai, which is two of our 100g packets or one 8oz scoop. Using our current prices, that works out to roughly $3.75–$4.00 per bowl with packets, about $2.60–$3.13 per serving with a scoopable bucket, and about $8.12–$8.99 for a ready-to-top bowl base. Below is how each format works, what you actually get per bowl, and which one fits how you make acai.
The short answer: how much acai goes in one bowl
A standard acai bowl starts with a thick frozen base and gets topped with fruit, granola and nut butter. For the base itself, here's a practical rule of thumb:
- Small or snack bowl: 1 frozen acai packet (100g), usually blended with half a banana or a few frozen berries to bulk it up.
- Full-size bowl: 2 frozen acai packets (200g). This is about the same amount of acai as an 8oz serving.
- Cafe-style serving: one 8oz scoop from a scoopable bucket, or one bowl base cup straight from the freezer.
If you like your bowl extra thick, keep the acai at two packets and add less liquid rather than more acai. Liquid is what thins a bowl out.
Three ways to buy acai for bowls
We sell acai for bowls in three frozen formats. They all end up as an acai bowl, but the prep and the cost per bowl are very different.
1. Frozen acai packets (blend your own)
Acai pure comes in pouches of four individually sealed 100g packets of unsweetened acai. You run a packet under warm water for about 30 seconds, break it up, and blend it with a splash of liquid and any frozen fruit you like. Packets give you the most control over flavor and thickness, and they're the most flexible option for smoothies too.
If you prefer a slightly sweet bowl, acai + guarana uses the same 100g packet format, blended with guarana extract and raw cane sugar. Note that guarana contains caffeine.
2. Smoothie bowl base (no blender)
The acai smoothie bowl base is an 8oz portion of scoopable acai in a 16oz pint cup, filled halfway so the toppings go right in the same container. There's no blending and no tempering. You take it out of the freezer, add toppings and eat. It costs more per bowl than packets, and what you're paying for is zero prep and zero cleanup. We also make coconut and dragon fruit bowl bases in the same format.
3. Acai scoopable bucket (high volume)
The acai scoopable is a 3-gallon pail of ready-to-scoop acai, built for foodservice. Each pail yields 48 standard 8oz servings. You scoop it like ice cream, so there's no blender in the workflow at all. It's the lowest cost per serving, but 3 gallons is a lot of acai for most homes. It makes the most sense for cafes, smoothie shops, offices, events, or a big household with serious freezer space.
Cost per bowl: the math
These numbers use current prices on acaiexotic.com and count only the acai base, not toppings or shipping.
| Option | Price | What you get | Acai per bowl | Cost per bowl |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Acai pure, 1 pouch | $7.99 | 4 x 100g packets | 2 packets (200g) | about $4.00 |
| Acai pure, case of 10 | $74.99 | 40 x 100g packets | 2 packets (200g) | about $3.75 |
| Acai pure, case of 10 (1-packet bowl) | $74.99 | 40 x 100g packets | 1 packet (100g) | about $1.87 |
| Acai smoothie bowl base, 1 bowl | $8.99 | 1 x 8oz cup | 1 cup (8oz) | $8.99 |
| Acai smoothie bowl base, case of 8 | $64.99 | 8 x 8oz cups | 1 cup (8oz) | about $8.12 |
| Acai scoopable, 1 bucket | $150.00 | 3 gallons, 48 x 8oz servings | 1 scoop (8oz) | about $3.13 |
| Acai scoopable, 2 buckets | $250.00 | 96 x 8oz servings | 1 scoop (8oz) | about $2.60 |
A couple of things the table doesn't show:
- Packets need a blender and a little extra fruit or liquid. Add the cost of half a banana or a handful of frozen berries if you use them.
- Bowl bases include the cup. No bowl to wash, and nothing to blend.
- There's a $50 order minimum and shipping depends on where you are, so the real per-bowl cost shifts a little with order size. Bigger orders spread shipping across more bowls.
Which one should you buy?
Choose packets if…
You already own a blender, you like adjusting thickness and flavor, and you also make smoothies. Packets have the best cost per bowl for home use, and the case of 10 is the best value if acai bowls are a weekly habit.
Choose bowl bases if…
You want an acai bowl in under a minute with nothing to clean. They're also handy for kids, offices, or anyone who doesn't want to deal with a blender at 7am. Grab the case of 8 for a lower price per cup.
Choose a scoopable bucket if…
You're serving a lot of bowls: a cafe, a smoothie shop, a gym snack bar, or a catered event. At 48 servings per pail, a bucket replaces a lot of blending time during a rush. If you're setting up a menu, see our wholesale page.
Tips for getting the most out of each bowl
- Use less liquid than you think. Start with 2–3 tablespoons per two packets and add more only if the blender stalls.
- Bulk up with frozen fruit, not more acai. Half a frozen banana adds body and natural sweetness for very little cost.
- Keep everything frozen until you use it. Store acai at 0°F or below. Scoopable buckets scoop best at around 10°F.
- Thawed acai should be eaten right away, so only take out what you'll use.
- Taste before you sweeten. Unsweetened acai is earthy and only slightly tart, with almost no sugar. A drizzle of honey or a sweet topping like banana or mango usually balances it.
FAQ
How many acai packets do I need for one bowl?
Two 100g packets make a full-size, thick acai bowl. One packet works for a small bowl, especially if you blend in half a banana or some frozen berries.
Is a scoopable bucket cheaper than packets?
Per serving, yes. One 3-gallon bucket ($150) makes 48 servings of 8oz, about $3.13 each, and two buckets ($250) bring it to about $2.60. Two packets from a case of 10 cost about $3.75. The bucket is built for foodservice, though, so it only makes sense if you'll serve a lot of bowls.
Do I need a blender for acai bowls?
Only for packets. The smoothie bowl base and the scoopable bucket are both ready to top or scoop straight from the freezer.
How do I thaw a frozen acai packet?
Run the sealed packet under warm water for about 30 seconds, break it into chunks, then blend. Eat it right after thawing.
How many bowls is an 8oz bowl base?
One. Each bowl base cup is a single 8oz serving, and a case of 8 is eight bowls.
